In addition to facilitating long Steadicam moves throughout the set, the lighting plan for Ptolemy’s library had to allow for bluescreen and greenscreen photography; the lights for that work are not included on this diagram. The bluescreen wrapping around the balcony was replaced by VistaVision plates shot in Malta, and the greenscreen off the library scroll room (lower right) was replaced by a CG extension of the room. The last row of spacelights at far left was the primary source of bluescreen illumination, providing an even wash of clean light; for shots that didn’t crane over the balcony, an array of 4x4 Kino Flos with Super Blue tubes helped light the screen from the floor. The greenscreen was lit with a smaller array of Kino Flos with Super Green tubes. The 20K Molebeam mounted above the greenscreen backlit the scroll room, an effect carried into the library by two Arri T12s. The locations of the 5K Molebeams indicate their initial positions; they were moved around as the scene progressed. In that room, Higgins’ crew used Duvetyn to skirt off the cluster of space lights inside the ring of Par 64s to minimize spill on the nearby columns. The 2K Blondes (far right) lit a white flat outside the window.
