A moodily lit laboratory represented one of the more complex sets on the main bluescreen stage. In addition to a practical doorway and stairs, the art department dressed the set with several tables littered with scientific equipment and jars and created glass-door cabinets with which the performers could interact. Adkins’ lighting for this scene is diagrammed in this third image in this series. “It was an interesting set to light because of the reflective glass beakers and stainless-steel containers,” says Adkins. “Set dressing helped hide sources, while bounce cards and silk frames minimized hot spots on the glass. The 8'x4' poly hanging above the set [lower left corner of the diagram] hides a 5K while acting as fill for the actors walking down the stairs.” (image 1 of 2, also see Diagram)
