The textures and compositions of Edward S. Curtis’ early 20th century stills (Gánaskidi, and this image, The Vanishing Race) were a key inspiration for Dear Wendy’s visuals. While scouting a mine in Germany, Dod Mantle was struck by a small talisman (previous image) he discovered at the entrance. “I found it slightly reminiscent of some Curtis portraits of masks and small figures,” he recalls. “These things always affect me deeply on research, and I often try to inject them into the film somehow.” (Image 3 of 3)
