For a shot of Vader’s shuttle coming from the Death Star to the landing platform, the camera tilted down from the Death Star to the landing platform.
Above: A shot of a Walker done in miniature was rear projected onto the painting so that the Walker appeared to arrive at the landing platform just as the camera tilted down.
A hold-out matte of miniature trees was bi-backed (see above) in the camera to introduce a "pinocco" parallax effect during the tilt.
Above: The nearly completed composite showing everything except the actual bluescreen shot of the shuttle itself.

Above: the carefully constructed bluescreen set for Vader’s shuttle arriving at the landing platform — later to be composited into the final shot.
