On location in Tunisia circa 1976, Guinness ministers to a fallen Hamill. Veteran director of photography Gilbert Taylor, BSC (in cap, at left of camera) discusses the setup with then-33-year-old writer/director George Lucas (to Taylor’s right). Though he found the production to be a difficult one, Taylor set the visual tone for what became a trilogy of blockbuster films. The location work in Tunisia, representing the planet of Tatooine, lasted two weeks before the production moved to Shepperton studios.
