Finn Film Services, Inc. now offers a lightweight diffusion box designed to achieve soft, projected front lighting on sitcom-style sets without interfering with camera equipment or obscuring the audience's view. Thirty of these new "Finn Boxes" are being utilized on the ABC series The Hughleys. This patent-pending device has a lightweight, modular, and foldable design, measures approximately 4' x 4', and is angled to allow maximum downstage coverage. Made from lightweight aluminum, the Finn Box has a built-in Speedrail bar to allow the mounting of multiple lighting instruments, and features two removable diffusion screens.
Each Finn Box is fitted with two medium Par cans in the upper half, and two wide Par cans in the bottom half for the "key" side. The diffusion screens are loaded with light gridcloth and Lee 187 cosmetic rouge gels. The boxes are usually mounted together in a flush position and suspended from greenbeds. The projected front light should be kept under and parallel to any sound booms rigged to the greenbed, thereby eliminating boom shadows.

Long Valley Equipment has introduced a 1.5" schedule-40 ABS curved dolly track that mates seamlessly to like-sized PVC or ABS plumbing pipe. It has an inside radius of 6' and an outside radius of 8'; overall, this is 2' tighter than standard steel track, and is intended for use in those small location shoots where moving a wall or some other obstacle is unfeasible. Two sections of track make a 90-degree turn, whereas eight sections form a full circle. Each section comes complete with "Track Locks," which are permanently installed expanding connectors used to join the pipe ends together from the inside, so there are no bumps to jostle the dolly. The larger outer curved section comes in two pieces for easy stowing in the standard Cordura Track Pack bag.

Kinesis has designed a modular, foam-padded production belt for grips, gaffers, and cinematographers. The basis of the system is a 4"-wide foam-padded belt that is conically cut for a proper fit. Pouches are then individually attached to the belt for custom configuration. The production bag features a top-opening, zippered main compartment with an inside stash pocket. The outside zipper features an effective all-weather flap. The belt is lined with foam around the back and bottom. The bag's front features a bellows pocket, two slip pockets for pens or business cards, and a small, zippered compartment. A removable/convertible 1" shoulder/waist strap is also provided. The bag can attach to any Kinesis or other brand of pants belt, and includes a sewn-in hand-grab loop. Its exterior is constructed with DuPont Cordura nylon and has a waterproof urethane coating.
