Schneider Optics announces the development of MaxTran, an anti-reflection multi-coating for laminated filters designed to maximize light transmission. New Schneider MaxTran MC filters are designed to meet or exceed the military standards, and pass all aspects of applicable "Mil-Spec" coating test standards. Schneider multi-coated filters come in square and rectangular sizes, including 4" x 4", 4" x 5.650" (Panavision size), and 6.6" x 6.6." The company plans to make their complete line of square and rectangular motion picture filters available with Schneider multi-coating, and is prepared to add this coating to any such filters in Schneider's inventory for delivery to customers within 7 to 10 days. Schneider's proprietary manufacturing methods begin with crystal-clear, water-white optical glass. The filters are tested with a laser interferometer for exact flatness and plane parallelism, verifying the parallel relationship between both sides of a filter. This allows multiple Schneider filters to be used in front of long lenses without degrading image resolution.

Winsted Corporation has expanded its economy line of vertical racks, which feature several knock-down models, by adding two welded cabinets, the 35" (20U) Model 90011 and the 70" (40U) Model 90020. Both standard EIA 19" vertical racks are completely welded and ready for safe installation of one's heaviest equipment. They come complete with vented sides, an open base for cabling, and adjustable punched rack rails with lacing bar. The heavy-duty steel cabinets are 40 1/2" and 74 1/2" high x 22 1/8" wide x 26" deep, with a mar-resistant, black-textured enamel finish. Universal shelf support brackets have been added to Winsted's extensive line of vertical rack accessories. They fasten to the front and rear rack rails of any 19" EIA cabinet with depths from 22" to 36". The brackets are strong and will support a wide variety of products which require up to a 24" deep working space.

Robert McNeel & Associates unveil AccuRender 3, radiosity/raytrace rendering, animation, virtual reality (VR), and lighting analysis software for AutoCAD. The subtle indirect lighting effects are accurately calculated from the actual physical properties of lights and materials. Radiosity also provides lighting simulation and analysis. Designers can interactively browse a fully rendered AutoCAD model. AccuRender's VR technology provides high-speed 3-D browsing on any Windows 95/98/NT PC or across the Web without special hardware. AccuRender can use panorama technology such as Smoothmove Panoramas and LivePicture Panoramas. AccuRender 3 takes advantage of the newest Windows operating system technologies, including support for multiple processors, OpenGL preview display and the newest Windows interface features. The libraries now include over 5,000 materials and 500 plants. A new light fixtures library includes more than 300 fixtures with IES data as well as a number of lighting manufacturer's libraries. Complex, customizable, 3-D procedural materials make substances such as marble tile and wood parquet easy to simulate. An interactive materials editor provides a "live" raytraced preview of up to six materials at once. New file formats support includes AVI, 32-bit TGA, VRML, Smoothmove and LivePicture Panoramas. Other enhancements include soft shadows, blurry reflections and transparency, depth of field, enhanced anti-aliasing, and enhanced foliage geometry. AccuRender creates photorealistic, 16-million color images, animations, and virtual realities directly from AutoCAD 3-D models. AccuRender also allows the user to try different alternatives at any time, save and restore scene configurations, interrupt and restart radiosity and raytrace processing, run the processes in the background, save and restore the radiosity solution, and process an animation rendering across a network. AccuRender offers worldwide support, including direct e-mail support, Internet support, worldwide dealer network and direct telephone support.
