Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto observes that this shot (replicating Self Portrait with Cropped Hair) of Kahlo (Salma Hayek) contemplating the finished Self Portrait "is a good example of the visual differences between the world of our film and the shadowless world of Frida's paintings the doorway frames the painting, and what's outside the doorway is very moody and contrasty." Prieto used two motion-control passes to film Hayek inside the painting as well as at the mirror. "I shot it at T5.6, which gave me enough depth of field to keep both Fridas in focus with a 24mm lens." |
