Providing Internet live streaming, dome projection and even previously unrealizable 2D content, there has been a new demand for affordable and easy-to-use 360-degree cameras. Samsung’s new 360 Round [SM-R260] ties together 17 1/2.8”, 2-megapixel sensors in a horizontal, eight-lens-pair array. (The unpaired 17th sensor and lens is a vertical mount that centers the kitted camera system.)

With an F1.8 max aperture, the lens system is capable of live streaming or recording 4096 x 2048 at 30fps in both 3D and 2D MP4 formats (H.265/H.264). The 360 Round camera comes with PC-based software for controlling the camera and performing stitching and post processing. For 3D spatial audio, there are six internal microphones and two “external microphone ports,” though no info on which jacks are offered.

Supporting XD cards of up to 256GB, external storage can be expanded to 2TB through solid-state drives. At dimensions of 205 x 205 x 76.8mm, the 4.25 lbs body has a fanless chassis. It’s rated IP65 for water and dust resistance to common weather conditions.

Samsung also had a presence at the recent Adobe Max (October 17-20) with several very clever monitoring solutions. For editors, the 49” CHG90 Series “Super Ultra-Wide” C49HG90DMN curved gaming monitor is fairly exciting. Timelines can be expanded across the entire 1800mm length, and favored panel setups can be quickly accessed through an Easy Setting Box screen partitioner.

With 32:9 aspect ratio, equivalent to two 16:9 ratio panels, the $1,499 QLED panel uses “quantum” LED dots to achieve 600 nits in brightness, 1.07 billion colors, and an HDR-ready 3000:1 contrast ratio. There is 95% coverage of the DCI/P3 color space as well as 125% coverage of sRGB. 144hz refresh is also provided for crisp playback.

They also had the aggressively priced $699 32” UH850 UHD monitor with Quantum Dot and the $449 SH850 Series 26.9” QHD (2560 x 1440) with USB-C, which means you can daisy-chain up to four HD or two UHD panels. Samsung’s $399 32” CF391 LED and $349 27” SD590 LED monitors, also on hand, are more economical curved models.
