Clubhouse Conversations — Apple TV+ Roundtable

In this episode, cinematographers Matthew Jensen, ASC, Jason Oldak and Zachary Galler, John Guleserian and Cliff Charles are joined by interviewer Suki Medenčević, ASC, ASBiH, SAS to discuss their latest respective works for Apple TV+ — Extrapolations, Lessons in Chemistry, Platonic and Swagger.

Extrapolations, shot by Jensen, is an anthology series that explores the impact of climate change through a multitude of perspectives and interconnected narratives.

Lessons in Chemistry, shot by Oldak and Galler, is set in 1960s America, and follows chemist Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson) — who, after losing her job as a lab tech, lands a new gig as a television cooking-show host and uses her platform to educate her audience on scientific topics.

Platonic, shot by Guleserian, tells the story of Sylvia (Rose Byrne) and Will (Seth Rogen), two former best friends who reconnect as they approach midlife and soon find their lives destabilized, as their friendship becomes all-consuming.

Swagger, shot by Charles, explores the world of youth basketball, which promising talent Jace Carson (Isaiah Hill) — a character inspired by NBA superstar Kevin Durant — navigates with wide-eyed ambition.

During this roundtable conversation, Jensen, Oldak, Guleserian and Charles discuss a wide range of topics, including how to approach camerawork when shooting a comedy; how to shoot complex oners for scenes of sports action; how to create unique looks for a variety of time periods; using multiple cameras on a large-scale set, and more.
