New Member Tim Ives Curates ASC Instagram
The cinematographer begins his conversation with behind-the-scenes photos from Stranger Things.
Tim Ives, ASC — who was recently welcomed as a new member — will be curating the Society’s Instagram account throughout October. The account is coordinated by Eric Steelberg, ASC, who introduced Ives: “Some of Tim’s most recent and notable work includes HBO’s Girls, the pilot for Mr. Robot and Stranger Things. Looking forward to seeing what he shares!”
Each month, a new ASC member is invited to take over the account to discuss their inspirations and experiences.
In his first post, Ives showed off some behind-the-scenes images from the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, for which he has served as director of photography since the pilot.
“Mine is not a trajectory that began in formal film school,” Ives says about his career, which has included shooting pilots to the shows Kingpin and Blue Bloods as well as the series How to Make It in America and Power, among others.
Ives received 2017 and 2018 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour) for his work on Stranger Things and an OFTA Television Award nomination for Best Cinematography in a Series (with Igor Martinović and Eigil Bryld) for his work on House of Cards.
In addition to his camerawork, Ives serves as a guest lecturer for New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Kanbar Institute of Film & Television as well as other New York City colleges.
