Clubhouse Conversations — Andor (Season 2)

In this episode, cinematographers Damián García, Christophe Nuyens, SBC and Mark Patten, BSC are joined by interviewer Patrick Cady, ASC to discuss their work on Season 2 of Andor the Star Wars series that unfolds during the four years leading up to the events of Rogue One.

Season 2 of Andor continues to chart the journey of Rebel captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), as he emerges as a leader of the resistance against the forces of the Empire. Nuyens and Patten brought fresh cinematographic perspectives as newcomers to the show, while García returned as a series cinematographer following his work on Season 1 in 2022. (Watch García's previous Clubhouse Conversations interview on that season here.)

In this interview, García, Nuyens and Patten discuss how they created distinct, yet cohesive visual identities for their respective episode arcs; the influence of such films as The Battle of Algiers, Memoirs of a Geisha and La Grande Bellezza on the show’s style; their use of print-inspired LUTs and vintage lenses to balance the show's grounded feel with its sprawling sci-fi scale; the challenges of shooting large-scale sequences, such as the Ghorman Plaza riot; their commitment to naturalistic lighting, and more.

Damián García is a cinematographer whose credits include the features I’m No Longer Here, Jungleland and Gueros and the series Narcos: Mexico.
