Clubhouse Conversations — The Boys [Season 4]
In this episode, cinematographer Dylan MacLeod, CSC, is joined by interviewer Patrick Cady, ASC to discuss his work on Season 4 of The Boys — the acclaimed satirical superhero series centered on a team of vigilantes who combat another superhuman group that exploits their powers for personal gain.
Season 4 of The Boys takes place six months after the events of the previous season, as the eponymous squad of heroes cooperate with the CIA to sabotage U.S. Vice President Victoria Neuman's (Claudia Doumit) attempt to assume total government control. MacLeod was tasked with shooting four of the season's eight episodes, including the premiere, entitled "Department of Dirty Tricks."
In this interview, MacLeod discusses developing the series' distinct visual language; crafting the contrasting looks for the Boys and their adversaries, the Supes; how the crew incorporated practical effects and innovative VFX techniques to amplify the show’s gore and spectacle; the collaborative dynamic between the series' directors and stunt teams to shape complex action sequences; creating lighting that would maintain a gritty, documentary-inspired look, and more.
Dylan MacLeod, CSC is a cinematographer known for his work on Trench 11, Civic Duty, and From.
Patrick Cady, ASC is a cinematographer who made his feature-cinematography debut with Karyn Kusama’s award-winning drama Girlfight. His credits include the series Bosch, Rectify, Betrayal and Insecure, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination.
