Angénieux has announced two new long-range zoom lenses, the Optimo Ultra 12x, which is now available at rental houses worldwide, and the anamorphic Optimo 42-420 A2S, which will ship soon.

The multi-format Optimo Ultra 12x features a totally new optical and mechanical design, offering superb image quality, no ramping and minimal breathing, as well as improved mechanical stability and serviceability. The Optimo Ultra 12x comes with the standard PL mount and has a sub-mount system that facilitates other options, including the new LPL Arri mount.

The lens features a precise and ergonomic focus ring that can be easily changed from meters to feet. It is designed for extreme shooting conditions; a better sealed optical area reduces dust intake, and the lens can be used in temperatures ranging from -5°F to 105°F.

Thanks to Angénieux’s Interchangeable Rear Optics technology, the lens can be configured to cover three different formats: S35 (31.1mm image circle), U35 (34.6mm image circle) and FF/VV (46.3mm image circle).

Two packages are available (in feet or meters): the Standard Optimo Ultra 12x Package, which features the Zoom S35 and U35 Kit, and the Full Optimo Ultra 12x Package, which features the Zoom S35 and U35 Kit and the FF/VV Kit.

Available separately are a carrying handle and front protective glass for the lens. Existing Optimo 1.4x and 2x extenders can fit the Optimo Ultra 12x, but with some restrictions.

The Optimo 42-420 A2S (T4.5) features the traditional 2x horizontal squeeze, minimum breathing and even less distortion than its predecessor, the Optimo 44-440 A2S. It offers a fast aperture of T4.5 from 42mm to 420mm, has a close focus of 4' 1" and weighs 16.7 pounds.

Like other Optimo anamorphic zooms, the 42-420 A2S is PL mount and features a unique mount design that facilitates a quick swap between PL and PV mounts. The focus ring can easily be changed from feet to meters, and the built-in lens encoder can provide lens metadata (focus, zoom, T-stop) via industry standard /i Cooke protocol.

Thanks to IRO technology, the Optimo 42-420 A2S can be converted to a spherical 25-250 T3.5 zoom by swapping the rear group and appropriate rings (when the spherical kit option is selected). The robust lens is suited to temperatures ranging from -4°F to 113°F. It is compatible with 1.4x and 2x extenders; the 2x extender makes the lens an 84-840mm T9.
