Arri LMB 4x5 Lightweight Matte Box

Offering a single-filter configuration that can cover everything from gimbals to drones to Steadicams, the new Arri LMB 4x5 is a matte box capable of three-stages in clamp-on or rod-mounted configurations.

Fitting standard 4”x 5.65” and 4”x 4” filter sizes, the new Arri LMB 4x5 matte box builds on Arri’s line of Lightweight Matte Box solutions to offer a highly configurable filtration and flare suppression for professional filmmaking systems. Available in a variety of 15mm and 19mm or clampdown kits, the Arri LMB 4x5 starts off at $1,070 Arri Basic Module, base for the filter stages, lens mounts and accessories, but culminates in the Arri LMB Pro Set, which streets at roughly $4,900.

The Arri LMB Pro Set comes with every available item in the new Arri LMB 4x5 matte box system except for 15mm and 19mm studio rod adapters. The LMB 4x5 screw-in 15mm LWS Console attaches Arri’s 15mm lightweight LWS 15mm rods, and the bundle also has top-or-bottom-mountable LMB 3/8” accessory adapter for ultrasonic distance measurement devices. There are three carbon-fiber, extendable flags, one for the top or bottom, and two for the sides.

A rubber-donut-style tilt-and-flex adapter will affix to front lens diameters of 62-143mm, while the tilt module also has a +/-10-degree arc with horizontal adjustments to perfectly align and adjust for unwanted reflections, flare suppressions, or filter effects. The tilt module is swing-away for fast lens swaps and filter changes, or the LMB 4x5 Basic Module can also be converted for 15mm or 19mm rod support with 143mm top-or-bottom clamp adapter, or, finally, to clip-on through available clipping adapters.

Adding the LMB 4x5 Extra Rotatable Filter Stage, a third-filter stage with integrated tray catcher and 360º of travel, to the LMB 4x5 Basic Module, allows time-saving quick-mount filter rotations and removal or lens swaps. The basic 1-filter stage, the LMB 4x5 Extra Non-Rotatable filter stage, is compatible with all current Arri R2 filter rings, and can be used on its own with the 15 mm LWS Console as the most lightweight setup possible. Both LMB 4x5 Extra Rotatable filter stage and the LMB 4x5 Extra Non-Rotatable filter stage can be used as standalone filter stages when used with LMB 4x5 clamp adapters. The LMB 4x5 Basic Module can be extended by adding a clamp adapter, as well.

Arri is offering the LMB 4x5 as an attractive option for LMB-25 owners, with upgrade pricing available through the company. If purchasing the full LMB 4x5 Pro Set, the kit also comes with two LMB 4x5 Flag Holders and two sets of five mattes, one anamorphic and one spherical, all of which is compatible with the LMB-25. The LMB 4x5 will also affix to clamp adapters and filter frames compatible with the other models in the line, including the LMB-5 and LMB-15, which ensures support for a wide range of lens diameters.

Rod-mounting is compatible with Arri’s LWS (lightweight system) 15mm rods, standard 15mm rods, and, for heavier lenses and larger front-end configurations, more robust 19mm rods. Several kit variations of the above are available for your choice of rods or clamps, as well.
