Created in collaboration with Master Cinematographers, a.k.a. the MC4, the Steadicam Air expands on the advantages of a standard monopod by housing a 100% gas-powered lift spring. Activated by an adjustable foot pedal, the Steadicam Air allows kneeling to standing heights within seconds.
Made from carbon fiber, the three-section monopod with quick twist leg grips weighs jsut 3.5lbs. Available in two configurations, the $499 Steadicam Air 25 and $399 Steadicam Air 15 will support up to 25lbs and 15lbs, respectively. Otherwise, they are identical in features and operation.
Extendable from 28-62.5", the Steadicam Air includes twist leg lock at the base, allowing 360 degrees of rotation. The foot pedal is rubberized and oversized to prevent slippage while enhancing stability. The pedal folds neatly for stowing.
The foam padding on the grip point has debossed Steadicam branding on the handle, and “sleek red accents” have also been added for style. An aluminum top plate has reversible screw to support industry-standard 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads, and the Steadicam Air comes with a deluxe, padded carrying bag with ergonomic shoulder strap for protection and transport.
Master Cinematographers is a group of four working filmmakers: Richard Crudo, ASC; Francis Kenny, ASC; Sallyanne Massimini, DGA and Jarred Land, an ASC associate member and president of Red Digital Cinema.
