Sigma 14-24mm (F2.8) DG HSM Art Lens
NAB 2018: A new VR-enabled full frame prime plus the first of new Sony E-mount lenses debut.
NAB 2018: A new VR-enabled lens with full frame coverage plus the first of new Sony E-mount lenses debut.
Found in Booth C10308 from on April 9-12 alongside the new family of Sony E-mount solutions, announced just this last February, Sigma Corporation of America will be showcasing a brand new model in their “Art” series of flagship lens solutions.
With "round" front hood conversions available through Sigma, the Sigma 14-24mm (F2.8) DG HSM Art lens can be optimized for use with multi-camera productions and VR rigs. At $1,299, the high quality wide angle zoom has been “designed for 50-megapixel plus cameras” with “virtually zero distortion” at infinity focus, optimal for nature and documentary photography.
Offering full-frame and hence APS-C coverage for Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts, optics minimize chromatic aberration, flare and ghosting through three FLD glass elements, three SLD glass elements and three aspherical lens elements in addition to one 80mm, high-precision, molded-glass aspherical element. The dust- and splash-proof construction also has specialized weather sealings at the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring and cover connection.
The new Sony E-mount line promises the same “high-performance optical design” as Sigma’s Art line. They also add a new control algorithm to optimize data transmission and autofocus drive to give them compatibility with Sony’s AF-C continuous autofocus system, in-camera image stabilization and in-camera aberration correction, including corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations and distortion.
“In addition to our award-winning Cine lens lineup that features outstanding performance and color matching across the line, Sigma is showcasing its newest Art lenses, offering cinematographers, videographers and camera operators, including those shooting VR, even more choices for premium optics,” says Mark Amir-Hamzeh, President of Sigma Corporation of America, in the press release.
With models to meet the needs of PL, E, and EF camera systems, the Sigma Cine Lens line will also be on display. Sigma’s Cine High Speed Zooms for Super 35 coverage, currently an 18-35mm (T2) and 50-100mm (T2), and their full-frame FF High Speed Primes, currently seven models, are available for E, EF and PL mounts. The full-frame Sigma 24-35mm (T2.2) FF zoom is available for Canon EF and Sony E mounts.
Most recently joined by 14mm (T2) FF and 135mm (T2) FF, as in full frame, each prime lens comes with standardized gear positions and filter sizes plus matched rotational angles for focus, zoom and iris (focus rotational angle of 180 degrees, zoom rotational angle of 160 degrees, and linear iris ring of 60 degrees).
In addition to manual control, EF/E mount interchangeability, and dust- and splash-proof construction, constant maximum apertures in the Sigma Cine zooms, and primes, all exceed a bright (T2.2). Sigma promises lens resolve supporting 8K across the line, with focal lengths covering a range from 14mm to 135mm.
