ASC Nominates 12 for Heritage Awards
The ASC has nominated 12 student filmmakers for 2014 ASC Linwood Dunn Heritage Awards.
The American Society of Cinematographers has nominated 12 student filmmakers for 2014 ASC Linwood Dunn Heritage Awards.
The undergraduate nominees are: Harper Alexander of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, for Starlight; Freddy Domini Alcantara of City College of New York, for Harvard on Hudson; Jackson Eagan of Ithaca College, Roy H. Park School of Communications, for Door to Door; Jeanpaul Isaacs of Rutgers University, for Across Dystopia; Arden Tse of Loyola Marymount University, for The Imperfect Method; and Mike Reyes of Art Center College of Design, for Hero Sandwich.
The graduate nominees are: Matthew Edwards of the University of Southern California, for Vicious; Wesley Hunt of American University, for Among the Lost; Guy Pooles of the American Film Institute, for Dirty Laundry; and Doug Potts of Chapman University, for Andre Foster.
The documentary nominees are: Matthew Blake of Chapman University, for Forest Keepers, and Benjamin Mullinkosson of Chapman University, for The Pink Helmet Posse.
The winners will be announced June 14.
The ASC established the Heritage Awards to inspire the next generation of cinematographers and help them pursue their dreams. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates. A jury of ASC members views all entries and determines the nominees.
The Heritage Award is renamed annually for an extraordinary ASC member. This year’s honoree, Linwood Dunn, served two terms as ASC president and was also a governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in two different branches, cinematography and visual effects. Among his many honors were an Academy Award for visual effects for Mighty Joe Young, the Academy’s Gordon E. Sawyer Award, and the ASC Presidents Award. Always keenly interested in technology, Dunn was an inventor and a true filmmaking pioneer; his innovations included the first zoom lens and the first optical printer. At the age of 93, he helped to develop digital projection.
