ASC Welcomes New Member Sevdije Kastrati Dill

The Kosovo native studied at AFI and shot the features Kosovo submitted for the Oscar for Best International Feature in 2018 and 2019.

Kosovo native Sevdije Kastrati Dill was 15 and preparing for a career in medicine when civil war erupted in her country. She lost her mother and sister in the conflict, events that changed the course of her life; she was introduced to filmmaking and inspired by the power of visual storytelling. Since then, she has worked on a variety of projects focused on human rights.


She moved to the United States in 2009 to study cinematography at the American Film Institute, earning an MFA in 2011. Her credits include the prizewinning short The Return and the features Carved, Perpetrator, Vera Dreams of the Sea, Zana, Cold November and The Marriage. The Marriage and Zana were Kosovo’s submission for the Best International Feature Oscar in 2018 and 2019, respectively.


Her documentary credits include Killing County, Urban Nightmares and The Kingdom of Coal.
