Nolan, Thomas and van Hoytema Discuss Dunkirk at Clubhouse

A casual dinner meeting held on May 4 at the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood featured an informal discussion session with Hoyte van Hoytema, ASC, FSF, NCS; producer Emma Thomas and writer-director Christopher Nolan.
The trio was introduced by ASC President Kees van Oostrum and the event brought out an impressive audience of active ASC members, including Lance Acord, Michael Barrett, Tom Barron, Paul Cameron, James Chressanthais, Christopher Chomyn, David Darby, Richard Edlund, Eagle Egilsson, Fred Elmes, Larry Fong, Michael Goi, Frederic Goodich, Neil Krepela, Jacek Laskus, Denis Lenoir, Steve Mason, Suki Medencevic, Guillermo Navarro, James Neihouse, John Newby, Crescendo Notarize, Woody Omens, Lowell Peterson, Robert Primes, Cynthia Pusheck, Pete Romano, Nancy Schreiber, Bill Taylor, Amelia Vincent, William Webb, Lisa Wiegand and Robert Yeoman.
A large contingent of ASC associate members was also in attendance.
Together, the three spoke passionately about their love for film as a production medium and the creative choice to use large-format 65mm cameras to photograph their next production, the World War II-set drama Dunkirk, to be released in July of 2017.
