Panavision Veteran Bob Harvey Joins ASC Staff
Planning and coordinating the ASC's centennial celebration is one major focus for this industry expert.
Bob Harvey, an ASC associate member and Panavision’s longtime executive vice president of sales and marketing, has joined the ASC’s executive team as a consultant to facilitate Society endeavors, including its upcoming centennial celebration in 2019.
“Bob has a longstanding relationship with the ASC and with many of its members,” says ASC President Kees van Oostrum. “The ASC board approved this idea and he’s with us officially. The ASC’s centennial is one of the reasons why we needed someone like Bob, to help plan and coordinate this milestone event. He brings a unique point of view to the Society with a deep understanding of our community, which includes cinematographers, their crews and the vendors who support them.”
Harvey says, “When I made the decision to retire from the day to day at Panavision after 33 years and sign on as a consultant, Kees approached me to see if I was interested in signing on at the ASC in an advisory role and I thought that might be right up my alley. I’ve been an associate member for many years and attended many ASC events and I have worked with many members. There’s a lot of activity coming, especially the centennial, and we need to work hard to properly present the ASC to the world as the oldest Hollywood professional organization. I think my marketing background and history in our industry will help accomplish that.”
Harvey notes, “There are things that I’d never realized about the organization. I think this is a tribute to the entire staff. They accomplish the day to day work and I hope I can contribute and help with further successes. I come from a different area and hopefully some of what I've learned over the years will blend with the approaches that this well-oiled machine takes.”
One thing Harvey looks forward to is helping the ASC work together with other Hollywood organizations, including the Motion Picture Academy, Director’s Guild, Producer’s Guild, Art Director’s Guild and, of course, the International Cinematographer’s Guild. “We all have mutual interests and can all benefit from working together where possible,” he says. “I’m really looking forward to that.”
