Subjects Set for ASC Master Class on Oct. 14-15
This two-day online session is open to students worldwide and feature two prepared lighting demos and interaction with ASC instructors via Zoom.
A special two-day session conducted entirely online, this upcoming ASC Master Class instructional is designed to last about 6 1/2 hours per day and is open to students worldwide at a reduced cost.

Unlocking the World of Optics
Presented by Jay Holben
An in-depth look at the construction of optics and the endless opportunities for visual expression by understanding lens properties.
Lighting Demo Introduction and Talk
Presented by Michael M. Pessah, ASC
Michael will demonstrate his working method and collaboration with a director and choreographer in the creation of a black-and-white dance piece.
Understanding Agents – Discussion with Anne Murphy
Moderated by Charlie Lieberman, ASC
An open discussion with Anne on the ins and outs of securing an agent. When do I need one? How can I get one and what can I expect from an agent/DP relationship?
Lighting Demo Introduction and Talk
Presented by Shelly Johnson, ASC
Shelly will create several different looks in the ASC Clubhouse bar. This will focus on heavily overpowering the natural look of the location to best service the tone of the scene.
Film Screening Q&A – The Creator
Greig Fraser, ASC, ACS and Oren Soffer
Moderated by Todd Banhazl, ASC
This will be a deep dive breakdown of Greig and Oren’s recent film The Creator. This film was shot using mostly the Sony FX-3 and FX-6 camera systems. We will explore the split nature of the production and how they were able to maintain unity and continuous collaboration with director Gareth Edwards.
There is only one more Master Class session in 2023, to be held on November 13-17, with a special focus on shooting motion-picture film.
