Clubhouse Conversations — Creed III

In this episode, cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau, ASC is joined by interviewer Steve Yedlin, ASC to discuss his work on Creed III — the third chapter in the saga of Rocky Balboa's protégé, Adonis Creed.

In Creed III, reigning boxing world champion Adonis "Donnie" Creed (Michael B. Jordan) is confronted by the sudden reappearance of Dame (Jonathan Majors) — a once-close companion, and once-promising boxing prospect, who served an 18-year prison sentence for a crime in which both men were entangled as teens, and who now seeks to settle their old score in the ring. The film marks Jordan's directorial debut, and Morgenthau's second Creed film, following Creed II in 2018.

In this interview, Morgenthau shares how he modified his workflow when shooting with a director who also stars in the film; prepping, lighting and photographing the three main boxing match sequences; his visual references and approach to the expressionistic “void” scene; and what he's learned about fostering collaborative relationships throughout his career.
