In this episode, cinematographer Richard Rutkowski, ASC is joined by interviewer Nancy Schreiber, ASC to discuss his work on Sugar — the genre-bending mystery series from creator Mark Protosevich.

Sugar is centered the investigative work of private detective John Sugar (Colin Farrell), who digs into the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel (Sydney Chandler), the granddaughter of Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel (James Cromwell). Rutkowski shot three episodes for the show's first season — including Episode 4, entitled "Starry Eyed," which earned an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Cinematography this year.

In this interview, Rutkowski discusses his inspiration for creating LUTs; utilizing iPhones to create surveillance angles; the on-set flexibility afforded by his camera platforms of choice; his approach to shooting noir-inflected material, and more.
