Canon U.S.A., Inc., has introduced the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The R1 is designed for professional still photographers and video creators in a range of fields, including sports, news reporting and high-end video production. The R5 Mark II features improved video-focused features for advanced creators and a real-time multi-recognition tracking system for still photography.

Key features of the R1 include a back-illuminated, stacked, 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor; increased read-out speed, reducing “rolling shutter” distortions; still-image shooting speeds up to 40 fps; a “Cross-type AF” imaging sensor for more positive focus on subjects with linear detail, and video capabilities up to 4K (with 6K Raw video options).

Key features of the R5 Mark II include a back-illuminated, stacked, 45-megapixel full-frame sensor; a more advanced AF system, including Eye Control AF and new subject-tracking technologies; and Cinema EOS video features such as Custom Picture color profile (including Canon Log 2), False Color Wave Form Monitor and 4CH Audio with 24bit LPCM.

Canon has also unveiled accessories for the R5 Mark II: the LP-E6P battery and three optional battery grips (BG-R20, for vertical operability; BG-R20EP, with Ethernet port; and CF-R20EP, with cooling fan and Ethernet).

Both cameras feature the new Digic Accelerator, an addition to the Digic X processor. The Digic Accelerator assists with deep-learning processing, which helps to quickly analyze large volumes of data and supports the next-gen AF system, Dual Pixel Intelligent AF.

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II will be available in August 2024 and will list for $4,299 (camera body only). The R5 Mark II camera kit will include the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens and will list for $5,399. The optional battery grips will list for $349.99-$499.99.

The Canon EOS R1 will be available this fall and will list for $6,299.
