DCS Short Spotlights Safer Practices on Set in Covid Era
Getting Safely Back to Work in the Age of Covid is dedicated to the late Allen Daviau, ASC, an early victim of the virus.
The Digital Cinema Society has created Getting Safely Back to Work in the Age of Covid, a short documentary exploring tools and techniques the motion-picture industry can use to help create safer conditions on set during the coronavirus pandemic.
Directed, shot, edited and hosted by DCS founder James Mathers, the program is dedicated to the memory of Allen Daviau, ASC, an early victim of the disease.
“Covid-19 has cost lives and livelihoods and brought the media and entertainment industry to an abrupt standstill,” says Mathers. “Although positive developments are on the horizon in terms of vaccinations and therapies, there are still major uncertainties ahead, and we are a long way from being out of the pandemic woods.”
To make the film, Mathers interviewed filmmakers, business leaders and technologists about their experiences and methods of adapting and integrating technology to work safely on set. Participants include Steadicam operator (and Covid-19 survivor) Jeff Muhlstock, Covid Compliance Officer Chris Salas (pictured above, with Mathers at the camera), Panavision COO Michael George, Frame.io Global Senior Vice-President of Innovation Michael Cioni, Luminys President Richard Amadril and audio supervisor Nico Ruderman.
