Powered by Nvidia Picasso, the tool promises to deliver AI-generated stock images that pose no risk of copyright violations.
Getty Images has announced Generative AI by iStock, a tool that delivers “commercially safe” AI-generated stock images.
The service is powered by Nvidia Picasso, a custom machine-learning model trained exclusively on iStock’s creative library. Users generate new images using text prompts based on wholly owned and licensed source data. (By contrast, image generators such as MidJourney and Stable Diffusion use a variety of unlicensed source imagery to train their models.)
Each Getty Generative AI image is made available at medium resolution, suitable for online use, with higher resolution for print available as an additional generation. The images are guaranteed safe for commercial use — i.e., free of copyright-violation liability — and include legal coverage of up to $10,000 per image.
