GoPro Expands Offerings

GoPro Inc. has unveiled an array of products and services, starting with the Hero5 line of cameras, which can auto-upload photos and videos to GoPro Plus, a $4.99-per-month cloud-based subscription service that makes it easy to access, edit and share GoPro content using a phone or computer.

Retailing for $399.99, the Hero5 Black camera features a 2" touch display and simplified controls, video resolutions up to 4K at 30 fps, professional-quality 12-megapixel photos, voice control with immediate support for seven languages, and simple one-button control. The Hero5 Black is waterproof without a housing to a depth of 33', and the camera is compatible with existing GoPro mounts. The camera also boasts stereo audio recording and advanced wind-noise reduction, professional-grade electronic video stabilization, distortion-free wide-angle video and photos with a new linear-view setting, raw and WDR photo modes, and GPS.

With a retail price of $299.99, the Hero5 Session shares the same small design and the convenience of the original Hero Session camera, but benefits from significant performance upgrades, including video resolutions up to 4K at 30 fps and professional-quality 10-megapixel photos.

GoPro has also launched the Karma drone, which features a compact design and includes an image-stabilization grip that can be handheld or mounted to vehicles, gear and more. Compact and foldable, the entire system fits into the included backpack. A game-style controller features an integrated touch display, making it fast and easy to fly without the need for a separate phone or tablet to see what the drone sees. Additionally, the 3-axis camera stabilizer can be removed from the drone and attached to the included Karma Grip for capturing ultra-smooth handheld and gear-mounted footage.

GoPro’s recently introduced handheld or wearable Karma Grip stabilizer is compatible with Hero5 and Hero4 Black and Silver cameras. Karma Grip offers seamless camera connectivity and control; users can power on and off the camera, start and stop recording, and tag key moments with the push of a button. Additionally, the stabilizer has a Tilt Lock feature that will hold the camera at a desired angle until released, making it effortless to smoothly track an object above or below the horizon. The Karma Grip comes packaged with a handle and stabilizer, Hero5 harness, mounting ring, USB-C charging cable, tie-down strap and wrist lanyard, and grip case for protection and carrying.

GoPro has also unveiled the Quik app for mobile and desktop, which enables users to quickly produce high-quality videos, and the Quik Key, a key-chain micro-USB card reader that plugs into a phone to quickly transfer photos and videos from a GoPro camera. Also new is Remo, a voice-activated waterproof remote that extends the voice control range of Hero5 cameras while providing one-button remote control.
