Imax Corp. and Cinemark Holdings Inc. are joining forces to bring new Imax 70mm film systems and Imax with Laser to 17 Cinemark locations in the United States and South America.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cinemark will add four new Imax with Laser systems in the U.S. (and actively explore one additional location in South America); activate three additional Imax 70mm film-projection systems; and upgrade 12 systems to Imax with Laser, making the entirety of Cinemark’s U.S. Imax footprint Imax with Laser.

The new Imax 70mm film-projection systems will be installed in Cinemark venues in Woodridge, Ill., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rochester, N.Y. All three locations are scheduled to be operational before Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (shot entirely in Imax by Hoyte van Hoytema, ASC, NSC, FSF) is theatrically released on July 17, 2026.

All the new and upgraded locations will be equipped with Imax with Laser, whose 4K laser-projection system features a new optical engine, custom-designed lenses and a suite of proprietary technology designed to deliver brighter images with increased resolution and deeper contrast.
