P+S Technik has announced the Anamorphic Evolution lenses, which are based on the original optical design of Kowa Anamorphic lenses and incorporate P+S Technik’s rehousing.

The original Kowa Anamorphic primes comprised 40mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm focal lengths. “We got the feedback that the original focal range is limited, so we added two additional focal lengths, a wide-angle and a telephoto 135mm, which match the look of the original set,” says Alfred Piffl, founder of P+S Technik.

The optical design of the Evolution lenses is based on the original optical design and front-anamorphic principles of the original lenses, with the same look and bokeh. They are low in contrast, warm in color, and can be made to flare easily.

The lenses are built in a compact, lightweight housing with modern cam-driven internal focus mechanics. The focus throw has changed significantly compared to the originals; the Evolution lenses offer a 200-degree angle on the focus ring and a 100-degree angle on the aperture ring. The 80mm front diameter offers ease-of-use with a clip-on matte box; a 77mm thread was added for screw-in filters. The Evolution lenses are also equipped with an IMS exchange mount; PL mount is standard, and EF and E mounts are available.

P+S Technik has also begun shipping the first sets of completely rehoused Kowa Anamorphic lenses, which match the modern housing and mechanics of the Anamorphic Evolution lenses. The company also offers optical spares such as the front-anamorphic lens group. Together with the mechanical parts of the rehousing, the Munich-based company is now able to offer service and repair for all kinds of damages to Kowa Anamorphic lenses.

In addition to Kowa Anamorphic lenses, P+S Technik rehouses Cooke Panchro, Schneider Cine Xenon, Kinoptik, Super Baltar, Leica R, and Canon FD and K-35 lenses.
