Sigma Corp. of America is expanding its line of F1.4-aperture primes with the release of the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens.

Designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, the lens features a new optical formula optimized for the short flange distance of mirrorless systems. Sagittal coma flare has been improved, resulting in rounded star images and a clean bokeh effect.

Featuring a High-Response Linear Actuator autofocus driver, the lens achieves swift, silent autofocus. With a dust- and splash-resistant build, a manual aperture ring with click and lock switches, an AFL button, and 11 rounded aperture blades, the lens is well suited to all types of photography and video work.

The Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art will be available for Sony E-mount and L-Mount cameras in late February and will list for $849.

Sigma has also released firmware updates for its FP series cameras: Version 5.0 for the 24-megapixel Sigma FP, and Version 3.0 for the 61-megapixel FP L.

New features include a “Warm Gold” color mode, support for 4TB SSDs, and Atomos Cloud support. With the update, the cameras will also incorporate the EL Zone metering system created by Ed Lachman, ASC. EL Zone is a false-color exposure tool where standard exposure (18-percent reflectivity) is displayed in gray, with up to six steps of both highlights and shadows displayed in an intuitive, standardized, color-coded format.

Additionally, Open Gate with Anamorphic Desqueeze for the Arri Alexa LF and Mini LF has been added to the camera and settings registered in Director’s Viewfinder Mode.

The firmware updates are available on Sigma’s website.
