Sony Unveils Alpha 7 V, FE 28-70mm
The camera will begin shipping this month, and the lens will be available in February.
Sony Electronics has introduced the Alpha 7 V camera and the FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II compact zoom lens, which supports the camera’s high-speed continuous shooting.
The Alpha 7 V is powered by the partially stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with approximately 33 effective megapixels. The new image-processing engine, Bionz XR2, incorporates the AI-processing unit functions of the latest Alpha series. Through these innovations, the camera delivers improved Real-time Recognition Auto-Focus, Real-time Tracking, speed, color accuracy, still capture and video versatility.
Additionally, high-resolution Raw processing is now supported through the Imaging Edge Desktop application, and additional 4K recording modes are available, including 7K oversampled 4K 60p (available in full-frame mode) and 4K 120p (APS-C/Super 35mm mode). Full pixel readout without pixel binning enables highly detailed video recording.
The camera offers Wi-Fi 6E GHz compatibility for high-speed, wireless transmission, along with dual USB Type-C ports. A new Monitor Low Bright mode extends battery life, and improved thermal management supports extended 4K recording — approximately 630 shots when using the viewfinder, per CIPA standards.
The FE 28-70mm lens is designed to fully leverage the continuous-shooting capabilities of the Alpha 7 V sensor. When combined with compatible cameras, it offers up to 120 fps AF/AE tracking, continuous shooting, seamless body-lens coordinated image stabilization, AF even during zooming, and built-in breathing-compensation support.
The Sony Group’s manufacturing facilities for imaging products, including the Alpha 7 V and FE 28-70mm, operate at 100-percent renewable energy. The packaging uses Sony's proprietary, environmentally friendly Original Blended Material instead of plastic.
The Alpha 7 V body will be available by the end of December and will list for $2,899. The Alpha 7 V with FE 28-70mm kit will be available in February 2026 and will list for $3,099. The lens will also be available as a standalone item in February and will list for $449.
