Photographed by cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, ASC, for director Ridley Scott, The Last Duel was the seventh feature that the two paired for (with House of Gucci being the eighth). The pair is currently filming their ninth feature - Kitbag - about the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the rumored Gladiator 2 would give them an even 10.
Based on the true story of France's last trial by combat in the Middle Ages, a Knight named Jean de Carrouges challenges his former friend Jacques Le Gris to a duel after Jean's wife Marguerite accuses Le Gris of rape. Told in multiple "Rashomon-style" points of view, the movie is set in medieval France.
The Last Duel has a cast that includes Jodie Comer, Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Zeljko Ivanek, Ben Affleck, and Alex Lawther as King Charles VI.
