In Shōgun, the miniseries based on James Clavell's acclaimed 1975 novel, cinematographers Sam McCurdy, ASC, BSC; Christopher Ross, BSC; Marc Laliberté, CSC; and Aril Wretblad, FSF help bring to life the milieu of medieval Japan, where a perilous power struggle plays out with deadly consequences.
Production on the 10-part FX show primarily took place at Mammoth Studios in Burnaby, British Columbia, which allowed the crew to make ample use of the area's forests, fields and coastline to convincingly mimic its period setting. This behind-the-scenes photo gallery offers glimpses at the making of Episodes 1 and 2, shot by Ross, and Episode 7, shot by McCurdy.
You'll find AC's in-depth coverage of Shōgun in our April 2024 issue.
