Tier 9 Updates Sundial App
The app displays essential solar and lunar data, and the premium version offers unlimited, customizable alerts for such events as sunrise, dusk and full moon.
Tier 9 Digital has released an update to its Sundial app for the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Sundial provides a display of the sun and moon rise/set cycle over a 24-hour period. Data displayed includes sunrise, sunset, moonrise and days till the next full moon.
The configurable alert system allows users to set up notifications around 12 solar-transit events (i.e., dawn, sunrise, noon, dusk), four lunar-transit events (i.e., moonrise, lunar noon, lunar midnight) and four lunar-phase events (i.e., full moon, new moon, first quarter). For example, a cinematographer can be reminded exactly two hours before sunset to review conditions for a shot planned later in the day.
Alerts are generated using the built-in GPS on the user’s device and require no Internet connection; all calculations and scheduling are performed on the user’s device, and Sundial will continue to function in a location without mobile phone coverage.
The basic Sundial app is free to download and includes the ability to set one alert. Sundial Premium can be purchased for $2.99 and allows an unlimited number of alerts. With Sundial Premium, users can also select any date, select any location, save favorite locations, synchronize and back up alert definitions and favorite locations to iCloud, and configure additional location settings.
Voiceover is fully supported on all devices to assist vision-impaired users.
