American Society of Cinematographers members Antonio Riestra and Tobias A. Schliessler will be instructors during the next ASC Master Class, taking place in Hollywood on September 11-15.
Born in Mexico, Riestra joined the ASC in 2016 and is best known for his work in such feature films as Mama (2013), Last Knights (2015) and the upcoming The Bachelors (2017). He also recently photographed Eloise (2017) for director by Rob Legato, ASC.
His love for cinematography has been a long process of self-discovery; Light is invisible and so are emotions. Lenses give you the tool to bring together the world into your eyes with the camera being the vase to pour the image into. Antonio is a self-taught cinematographer who started his career with a Nikkormat and a 50mm lens. Cooperation and mutual understanding have helped him to earn the Spanish Goya and Gaudí awards and nominations in Canada and the Czech Republic. He is now based in Prague and Los Angeles.
Schliessler was born in Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and is best known for his work on the feature films Dreamgirls (2006), Lone Survivor (2013), Beauty and the Beast (2017) and the upcoming A Wrinkle in Time (2018). He has been a member of the ASC since 2008.
Schliessler studied cinematography at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. He began his career shooting documentaries, and then segued into independent features, television movies, music videos and commercials.
