ASC Announces International Cinematography Summit Plans at Camerimage
The event will be held in June of 2026 and focus on cinematographers' evolving role in the age of AI.
The ASC will host an international Cinematography Summit to explore “visual artistry in the age of AI, discussing cinematographers’ position and responsibilities,” Society President Mandy Walker announced during an ASC panel held Thursday night at ENERGACamerimage.
The event, planned for the first week in June, will be chaired by Michael Goi, ASC, ISC in collaboration with the Society's International Committee, chaired by Suki Medenčević, ASC, ASBiH, SAS.
“It will include presentations of cutting-edge technologies from developers, visits to modern stages used for motion capture and light mapping, demonstrations of AI shot creation and lighting in real time, reports from societies about AI use levels, and panel discussions about working in an ever-evolving industry,” Walker shared. "It’s important to the business and art of visual storytelling to be actively engaged with future developments that seek to interact with our experiences, our passions and our art.”
Goi, who was on hand and moderated the ASC panel, noted the importance of sharing the ASC’s experience with the next generation of cinematographers, “so we can bring some clarity and order to what's happening in terms of these technological transitions. Our commitment is to share that information.”
Joining Walker and Goi on the panel, titled “Visual Artistry in the Age of AI,” were 2025 ASC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Andrzej Bartkowiak, ASC; Sandra Valde-Hansen, ASC, LPS; Stephen Lighthill, ASC; and Karl-Walter Lindenlaub, ASC, BVK.
