ASC Inducts New Member Ben Kutchins
The cinematographer is nominated for an ASC Award for Boston Strangler. His credits include The White Lotus, Ozark and Mozart in the Jungle.
An enthusiastic photographer from the age of 13, Ben Kutchins, ASC got his start in the business as a still photographer at Industrial Light & Magic.
He made his feature-cinematography debut with director Adam Bhala Lough’s Bomb the System, which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature, and went on to shoot several other indies: Holy Rollers, The Art of Getting By (aka Homework), The Longest Week, Ten Thousand Saints and Sleeping with Other People.
Turning to television, Kutchins served as director of photography on the pilot and first season of Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle; Showtime’s Happyish; three seasons of Netflix’s Ozark, for which he received two Primetime Emmy nominations (for the episodes “The Toll” and “Civil Union”), and the first season of HBO’s The White Lotus.
He is nominated for an ASC Award this year for the period thriller Boston Strangler, for which he also received an Emmy nomination. His credits also include the features Clouds, Crown Heights and Photograph; the documentary Biggie: I’ve Got a Story to Tell; and the music video for Paul McCartney’s “Find My Way,” for which he received a Camerimage Golden Frog nomination.
He is currently at work on Season 3 of The White Lotus.
