On Saturday, February 10, ASC members Ed Lachman, Guillermo Navarro, Rodney Charters and Philippe Rousselot joined Association française des directeurs de la photographie cinématographique (AFC) President Richard Andry (all seen above, from left) for the panel discussion “Carte Blanche to the ASC,” which took place during the 18th annual AFC Micro Salon, held in Paris on Feb. 9-10.
Noted on the AFC site about the Micro Salon event: “These two days dedicated to the tools and technologies used by cinematographers are traditionally a time when manufacturers, distributors, renting companies, suppliers and end users come together for lively and collegial discussions regarding the latest innovations in the trade.”
And of the ASC event: “As every year, as part of the Micro Salon, the AFC will give carte blanche to an association of directors of foreign photography. This year, the ASC, the American Society of Cinematographers, the 99-year-old directors of photography organization, is our guest.”
ASC President Kees van Oostrum greeted the audience via video clip — and impressed with his fluent French.
Rachel Morrison, ASC — who was slated to participate in the event but could not due to work obligations — also provided a clip, noting that she hoped her Academy Award and ASC Award nominations for Mudbound would motivate other women to want to make films.
Rousselot is, of course, also a member of the AFC.
