Jeffrey Waldron Welcomed as New ASC Member
The cinematographer's credits include the features Poetic License, You Hurt My Feelings and Haunted Mansion (2023), and the series Little Fires Everywhere, The Morning Show, Chad Powers and Daredevil: Born Again.
Jeffrey Waldron, ASC credits Disney’s The Jungle Book (1967) with sparking his love for visual storytelling, and he originally dreamed of a career in hand-drawn animation. However, the 16mm camera on the stand at his local animation club proved especially intriguing, igniting “a wild obsession with cameras and film [that] ultimately led me toward live-action storytelling,” he says.
He studied film as an undergraduate at the University of Southern California, where he was mentored by ASC members Bill Fraker and Woody Omens, and he earned an MFA in cinematography at the American Film Institute, where ASC members Bill Dill and Stephen Lighthill were similarly influential.
He started shooting low-budget indies after graduation, and he received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for one, The Dynamiter. He has since shot a range of indies, studio productions and streaming series. His feature credits include Poetic License, You Hurt My Feelings and Haunted Mansion (2023). His series credits include Little Fires Everywhere, The Morning Show, Chad Powers and the forthcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again. He also shot the pilots Gossip Girl (2021), A League of Their Own and English Teacher, among others.
His documentary work includes Ghost Fleet, about modern slavery in Thailand’s fishing industry; he co-directed the project with Shannon Service and shared a News & Documentary Emmy nomination for Outstanding Cinematography with Basil Childers, Alejandro Wilkins and Lucas Gath.
