John Simmons, ASC was a key part of the creative team behind the PBS SoCal documentary project Finding Home: A Foster Youth Story, which chronicles the lives of four teens preparing to begin new lives outside the foster care system. The program was honored during the 71st Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards held on July 27 by the Television Academy at their home in North Hollywood.

The award was presented in the category of Crime/Social Issues, and was one of seven Emmys earned by Public Media Group of Southern California programming.

Simmons’ partners on the project included (in alpha order) executive producer Brenda Brkusic, editor Joe Fenstermaker, executive producer Karen Hunte, cameraperson Ann Kaneko, associate producer Michelle Merker, associate producer Margo Newman, producer Laurie Parker and director-producer Pamela Tom.
