OOOM stands for "Out of Our Minds."

Venus Optics is unveiling prototypes of two Laowa OOOM lenses, a 12mm T2.9 Zero-D prime and a 25-100mm T2.9 zoom, at NAB this week.

OOOM stands for “Out of our Minds,” which the company says “properly describes our ideology of designing lenses.”

The Laowa 12mm Zero-D has been designed with a 46.5mm image circle, successfully covering both full-frame and Vista Vision-sized sensors. Despite the 122-degree field of view, the image is perfectly rectilinear and features a close-to-zero distortion rate. The lens weighs 1.4 pounds and features a 100mm front diameter. A 114mm step-up ring is included. Both EF and PL mounts will be available.

The Laowa OOOM 25-100mm is designed for PL/EF cameras with Super 35mm-sized sensors. Featuring 32mm image coverage, the lens can focus up to 12.7" from the front element. The 4x zoom factor provides the flexibility to shoot in most scenarios. The focus, aperture and zoom rings feature cine-style 0.8 Mod gear teeth for fitting with focus units or motors. An industry-standard 114mm front diameter is equipped for filmmakers to fit with their own matte boxes. A focus-mark calibration mechanism is incorporated. User-interchangeable PL/EF mounts are available.

Both OOOM lenses will ship in late 2019.

Venus Optics has also announced it is now shipping the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) variant of the Laowa 9mm f2.8 Zero-D lens. Weighing less than 8 ounces, the lens provides “a more natural perspective for videography purposes,” according to the company.

The MFT variant has the same specs and optical performance as the existing Fuji X, Sony E, Canon EF-M and DJI DL mounts. A 49mm filter thread is included.

The Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D MFT lists for $499.
