Leitz Introduces Hugo II Lenses

The T2.1 additions to the Hugo line offer a slower aperture than the existing focal lengths in the series.

Leitz Cine has announced three additions to the Leitz Hugo series: 66mm T2.1, 75mm T2.1 and 90mm T2.1. Dubbed “Hugo II,” the trio offers a slower aperture than the 10 existing Leitz Hugo lenses.

The 66mm lens is based on the fabled “spy lens” created by Leica lens designer Walter Mandler for the U.S. Navy during the Cold War. It is estimated that fewer than 200 of them were produced.

The 75mm and 90mm lenses come from the Leica Summicron-M series. Being one stop slower than the T1.5 lenses allows them to be significantly shorter and lighter, nearly matching the dimensions of the rest of the T1.5 set wider than 50mm. By designing housings for these lenses, Leitz can now convert full sets of Leitz M 0.8 lenses to Hugo without sacrificing the longer focal lengths.
