Sony Electronics, Inc., is expanding its line of LED walls with the Capri series, set for release next winter, and is growing its Cinema Line with the FX2 camera, which will begin shipping in August.

The Capri Crystal LED series achieves a maximum brightness of 1,500 cd/m with a 2.50mm LED pitch size. The new models, ZRD-VS25FB and ZRD-VS25FM, are compatible with the Brompton Technology controller and the Megapixel controller, respectively. The solutions are targeted to customers seeking to cost-effectively support virtual-production applications, including television, feature films, commercials and broadcast, as well as for rental and staging purposes. Capri complements Sony’s Crystal LED Verona, using the same controllers and featuring the same luminance. The Capri models offer refresh rates of up to 7,680Hz and coverage of over 98 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

The Capri series also takes advantage of recent installation advancements. Offering a 1:1 cabinet optimized for temporary installations, the models can be quickly assembled and disassembled using locating pins for simple alignment and a tool-free lever locking mechanism. Furthermore, the solutions’ modular nature allows them to be set up in varying sizes and configurations — stacked, hung, curved or oval — and features a strong frame for supporting additional weight. Edge-protection plates and pin slides reduce wear and tear on parts.

Through alignment with Brompton’s Tessera SX40 and Megapixel’s Helios, the Capri models maintain control using tools and interfaces already commonly deployed in the industry, alleviating the need for additional training.

In related news, Sony also announced it will update its Virtual Production Tool Set in fall 2025. V3.0 will provide off-axis color-shift compensation capability exclusive to select Crystal LED series, including Capri, Verona and B-series. By using camera-position information, this feature will correct color shifts due to curved or angled installation in real time.

The FX2 Cinema Line camera features a 33.0 effective megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R sensor with 15+ stops of wide latitude using S-Log3, and a dual-base ISO of 800 and 4,000. It supports a variety of recording formats, including 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra, and records in such options as XAVC S-I DCI 4K at 24.00p. It can continuously record for up to 13 hours in 4K 60p thanks to its internal cooling fan and heat-dissipation structure.

The camera offers variable frame-rate settings, allowing up to 60 fps in 4K and up to 120 fps in Full HD. It supports Log shooting in Cine EI, Cine EI Quick and Flexible ISO modes. Up to 16 user LUTs can be imported for on-camera preview. The camera also features a high-resolution 3.68-million-dot tiltable electronic viewfinder designed specifically for video production and a 3.0-type vari-angle touchscreen LCD.

The FX2 will list for $2,699.99.

Sony recently released two solutions compatible with the Alpha and Vlog camera series: the Wireless Multi-Function Shooting Grip and the Wireless Remote Commander. The grip is optimized for flexible angles, can accommodate cameras weighing up to 3.5 pounds, and can be used as a tripod. The detachable remote commander is equipped with a Movie button, Zoom/Focus button and C1 (Custom) button, allowing one-handed operation. The remote commander connects to select Sony cameras and Xperia smartphones with a wireless communication range of approximately 33'. The grip and remote commander connect to the main unit without cables or receivers.

The Multi-Function Shooting Grip lists for $159.99, and the Remote Commander lists for $89.99.
