Sony Introduces Torchlight
The visualization service for filmmakers combines proprietary Sony technologies with real-time capabilities powered by Unreal Engine.
Sony has unveiled Torchlight, a visualization service for filmmakers that combines proprietary Sony technologies with real-time capabilities powered by Unreal Engine.
Torchlight is headquartered at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, Calif., and is overseen by Alex LoCasale, senior vice president of visualization, and Alex Cannon, creative director of visualization.
With Torchlight, filmmakers can visualize environments and scenes using Unreal Engine and virtual camera techniques. Sony’s custom tools include the Virtual Production Tool Set, which interfaces with the Sony Venice camera. Real-time hardware such as Sony’s Mocopi motion tracker and Hawk-Eye Innovations’ SkeleTrack provide motion-capture capabilities.
Sony will update Torchlight with new Sony technologies and workflows as they are developed.
