Sony Unveils Portable Volumetric-Capture System
Currently in development, the system captures and distributes animated 3D reconstructions of people, objects and spaces with low latency in nearly any location.
Sony’s CES 2023 presentation included a demo of its portable volumetric-capture system, which captures and distributes animated 3D reconstructions of people, objects and spaces with low latency in nearly any location.
Currently in development, Sony’s system features seven sensors and can be set up within an hour. It captures high-resolution volumetric data in real time, giving realistic results that can be used within metaverse-related apps, 3D animation and gaming. The system delivers an open, 360-degree perspective of the capture that is viewable using tablets and Sony’s Spatial Reality Displays. The system can also capture and send the data as a 3D live stream.
