Eric Moynier Welcomed as New ASC Member
The cinematographer’s recent credits include episodes of the Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and I’m a Virgo.
Eric Moynier has been creating images since he was a child. His father was a photojournalist and fashion photographer in Paris and Montreal in the 1950s and ’60s. At a young age, his father taught him how to use a camera and he began taking photos and working in the darkroom at his father’s agency.
Moynier started his motion-picture career in Montreal in the late 1980s. By the early ’90s, he was working with The Learning Channel and Discovery Channel, shooting documentaries that took him to Asia, South and Central America, Africa and Europe.
Later, he began to shoot music videos with friend James DiSalvio, then a director at Epoch Films. To this date, he has shot commercials for clients including AT&T, McDonalds, Ericsson, Kmart, Burger King and Molson.
Moynier gained experience as a camera operator, working for director Allen Coulter on the feature film Remember Me starring Robert Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin in 2009 and then operating on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire (Season 2, 3, 4 and 5), also doing additional photography and later earning the opportunity to shoot his own episode.
He then served as director of photography on the Sony Studios/NBC Universal series The Blacklist Season 2 and 3.
His other series work includes shooting The Good Cop, starring Tony Danza and Josh Groban, two seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in New York City (alternating episodes with M. David Mullen, ASC), Manhunt: Deadly Games in Pittsburgh (alternating with John Lindley, ASC), and Hit & Run in Israel and NYC, with directors Neasa Hardiman and Rotem Shamir (alternating with Zoë White, ACS).
In 2021, Moynier shot Season 1 of Julia for HBO Max, and, soon after, collaborated with director Everardo Gout on episodes of the Netflix / Scott Free miniseries Kaleidoscope.
The cinematographer then shot episodes of the imaginative Amazon series I’m a Virgo for director Boots Riley.
He also photographed two award-winning VR projects with Felix & Paul Studios: Miyubi and Le Cirque Du Soleil: Dreams Of ‘O’.
