
Max Da-Yung Wang Welcomed as New ASC Member
The cinematographer's feature credits include Looking Up, Exit No. 6, Animal World, The Girl from the Naked Eye and Boss’n Up.
Los Angeles-based cinematographer Max Da-Yung Wang, ASC was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and sparked to photography at the Chinese Cultural University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts. While working as a fashion photographer, he began exploring cinematography by training as a camera assistant at a rental house. He notes cinematographer Dar-lung Chang was an early mentor during this time: “He showed me that cinematography is a process of thinking, not just execution.”

Wang’s passion for the craft led him to enroll in the cinematography program at the American Film Institute, and he began working his way up the ranks in the lighting department after earning his MFA. His cinematography credits include the Asian features Ping Pong: The Triumph; Looking Up; Exit No. 6; Animal World, and the anthology My People, My Homeland, and the U.S. features The Girl from the Naked Eye and Boss’n Up.
His commercial clients include L’Oréal, Red Bull, Mercedes-Benz and McDonald’s, and he has shot music videos for Snoop Dogg and Lil Jon, among others.
