Robert Elswit, ASC to Teach at Next ASC Master Class
The Oscar-winning cinematographer will be one of the Society members instructing during June 24-28 session.
The first instructor announced for the upcoming ASC Master Class intensive — to take place in Hollywood on June 24-28 — is Robert Elswit, ASC.
The class will focus on the unique technical and creative characteristics of shooting motion-picture film. This topic has been explored in previous sessions and has returned due to popular demand. Portions of the class will take place at the ASC Clubhouse and at facilities and stages in the L.A. area.
Elswit earned an Academy Award for his camerawork in the period drama There Will Be Blood (2007), also earning the ASC Award and other honors for the picture. He earned previous Oscar and ASC Award nominations for his black-and-white cinematography in the period feature Good Night, and Good Luck (2005).
The cinematographer's extensive credits include the features Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Tomorrow Never Dies, Punch-Drunk Love, Syriana, Michael Clayton, Salt, the Mission: Impossible films Ghost Protocol andRogue Nation, Nightcrawler, Inherent Vice and King Richard.
His most recent projects include the Netflix series Ripley (which will be featured in an upcoming issue of American Cinematographer).
