American Cinematographer Earns Six Folio: Award Nominations
The ASC’s flagship publication once again impressed judges for the Folio: Awards for Editorial Excellence.
The ASC’s flagship publication, American Cinematographer, once again impressed judges for the Folio: Awards for Editorial Excellence, earning all three nominations in both categories the magazine entered this year: B-to-B Best Full Issue, Media/Entertainment/Publishing (January 2017, March 2017, June 2017) and B-to-B Best Single Article, Media/Entertainment/Publishing (La La Land, “City of Stars” by Mark Dillon, AC Jan. 2017; Empire, “Family Business,” by David Heuring, AC Oct. 2016; and T2: Trainspotting, “Lust for Life,” by Iain Marcks, AC March 2017).
The magazine is thus guaranteed to win the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in each category, adding to its impressive total; since 1996, AC has earned eight Folio: Awards as the top publication in the B-to-B Media/Entertainment/Publishing category, along with two Honorable Mentions and several dozen Folio: Awards and nominations in the Best Single Article category.
“I’m incredibly proud of our editorial staff and contributing writers, who richly deserve these prestigious honors,” says Stephen Pizzello, AC’s editor-in-chief and publisher. “For decades, American Cinematographer has been considered the top professional journal in its field, and this recognition by Folio: — the publishing industry’s magazine of record — shines another spotlight on our team’s consistent commitment to outstanding editorial.”
Pizzello adds, “These awards also reflect the high standards of the ASC and its members, who have given the magazine exceptional support over the years — along with many memorable, in-depth interviews about their work as cinematographers. The magazine and the Society work hand-in-hand to produce content that informs everyone from students to ASC Award winners, and the core of that editorial focus is the wisdom our members — and other directors of photography from around the world — share so generously.
“Many prominent filmmakers have told me that American Cinematographer provided the basis of their practical education, and that its content is considered to be the definitive history of production techniques. We take that responsibility very seriously, and we’ll continue to maintain the level of first-rate coverage reflected by these nominations.”
Winners in all categories will be announced on Oct. 11 at the Folio: Show awards ceremony in New York City.
